Yoga Mats
Yoga mats
are thin, rectangular cushions used in the practice of yoga. They are
designed to eliminate slippage while executing various poses and movements.
They are also means of defining one’s personal space during exercise.
There are many different types of yoga
mats available for practicing poses. Traditionally the mats were
made from cotton and sometimes animal skins. Today however, most mats
are made from synthetic materials, many of which are environmentally
friendly, decomposable materials.
Standard yoga mats are about 24 inches wide, 68 inches long and are
approximately 4-5 millimeters thick. Wider, longer and thicker varieties
are available through most yoga supply outlets. It is generally recommend
that one purchases a mat that can easily accommodate their body size.
